Great new photo to painting software

Postby eadams » Thu Oct 02, 2014 3:29 pm

I just had a look at Topaz Impression and was really impressed (pun not intended). It creates a painterly or sketchy image from photos and there are many styles to choose from, from charcoal to watercolor to oil. The best part is, you can change all the parameters (such as stoke width and length, paint opacity, paint volume, brush shape and size, etc) on the fly as well as select a background color, paper type, light direction, blend mode, etc. You can save your tweaks as a new custom effect. The software can be used as a standalone program or as a plugin for Photoshop or some other programs. I think it is going to be a "must have" program for me to use in conjunction with SPE. Since it costs $99, I'll be saving my pennies.

Been giving it a workout in combination with Sketch, SPE and Sagelight. Results are getting better and better. By using the undo brush in Sagelight as a last step (i open the image there and then bring it into the other programs) and setting hardness and pressure, I am able to fine tune the effects much better.

Decided to purchase it. Since I already have all the other Topaz Plugins, they reduced the price to $49.99. Thanks Topaz!

Hi DennB, how did you get that special offer? I have all the other Topaz plugins as well, but haven't been offered an opportunity to buy Impression for $49.99. For that price, I wouldn't wait any longer to order.

Thanks, Eve

Edit: I went back to the Topaz website and saw that previous owners of the Complete Collection should see a special upgrade price in the store. I don't see it so I submitted a support ticket.

They give a promo code and depending on how many plugins you already own the price varies. I had to email back and forth a couple of times because they didn't originally show I had all the plugins. That was updated then the price showed a $50.00 discount. Make sure they know you have all 14 plugins (Impression being #15)

Hi DennB, I like the treatment of the photo of your grandson. Since the original was distorted by blurry reflections, I would have written it off as a lost cause. But you managed to create a vibrant dynamic image that really holds my interest. :)

You created a stunning arty image out a (with all respect) ordinary, not the strongest picture you had, I would say; job well done DennB!
